Telehandler Buckets

Telehandler Buckets

Ensuring your telehandler is operating as effectively as possible is crucial for any well run operation and buckets are the unsung hero that allows you to get the most out of your machine. It is a delicate balance between bucket size, design, materials, and machine that if done incorrectly could have catastrophic consequences for your machine or leave money on the table for your business.

In our 30 years of experience and our position as the industry leader in Telehandler attachments we find that 90% of telehandler buckets fall into one of these 4 categories:

  • General Purpose (GP) Bucket
  • Light Materials Bucket
  • Rehandling Bucket
  • 4 in 1 Bucket

If you don’t think one of those buckets suits your operation, please check out our other buckets here or speak to one of our team for advice or a custom design.

Types of Telehandler buckets

In our 30 years of experience and our position as the industry leader in Telehandler attachments we find that 90% of telehandler buckets fall into one of these 4 categories:

General Purpose Bucket

  • Like it’s name suggests, this is a good general purpose bucket. This is the bucket you need when you’re regularly handling multiple types of material.
  • Not suited for regularly handling harsh materials like construction waste but can do the job
  • Less efficient at handling large loads of lighter materials meaning you’ll be spending more time, using more fuel, and doing more passes than your optimum bucket

Light Materials Bucket

  • Designed to move as much material as possible as efficiently as possible
  • Ideal for moving grain, fertiliser, mulch, and other materials below 800kg/m3
  • Not suitable for handling materials over 800kg/m3 as it can exceed machine capacity

Rehandling Bucket

  • Designed to move large quantities of harsh material a Light Materials bucket can’t handle
  • Ideal for moving sand, gravel, aggregate, and other materials between 1,200kg/m3 and 2,200kg/m3
  • Sacrifices bucket capacity for the longevity of your bucket and telehandler

4 in 1 bucket

  • The ultimate allrounder. A 4 in 1 can be used like an ordinary bucket, as a clamp, as a dump bucket, as a dozer blade, and to backblade.
  • Less efficient at moving bulk loads of material so not recommended for a machines intended to do a dedicated task
  • A necessity on farms across Australia, this bucket can handle anything from grain to gravel, pick up logs and debris, push waste into piles, and backblade a driveway

How to choose a style of bucket

How you intend to use your machine will dictate the bucket you need. Operations where a telehandler will be used almost exclusively to move bulk quantities of material (like grain, sand, or waste) will usually be better off with a dedicated bucket. If moving materials via a bucket is not something you intend to do often, a GP bucket is often the most cost effective way of ensuring your machine is properly equipped. If the telehandler will be used to do a bit of everything then we’d usually recommend a 4 in 1.

What to consider

There are many considerations to make when deciding on a bucket for your telehandler. As the industry leader, Kerfab are well equipped to act as your trusted advisor and help you decide on the right bucket to suit you.

1. Your machines capacity
  • The lifting capacity of your machine is the biggest factor in determining the size and capacity of your bucket
  • Telehandlers are especially complex due to the nature of their design and ability to raise/extend loads well away from the machines centre of mass
  • A 12 month warranty for a GP, LM, or RH bucket is not acceptable. A 24 month warranty is the industry standard
  • Kerfab offer a massive 5 year warranty on all GP, LM, and RH buckets and a 4 year warranty on our 4 in 1 buckets.
  • Generally speaking, GR350 steel is ideal for most telehandler bucket components but high wear parts require high grades of steel
  • Bucket lips and edges require high wearing steel
  • Bolt on Edges are essential for high use applications. If you don’t intend to use your bucket regularly then a Bolt on Edge may not be necessary
  • Rehandling buckets often require additional wear plating in key areas of the bucket, Kerfab will advise whether this is necessary for your application
