9 Bales on 1 Fork

9 bales on 1 fork

As the leading manufacturer of machinery attachments in Australia, Kerfab is no stranger to unusual requests. When Jayson from Jungheinrich Australia contacted us about building a “Mega Hay Fork” we knew we were up to the job.

After discussing the customers needs with Jayson the Kerfab engineering team set about designing an attachment to suit. The task was a challenging one, Kerfab needed to design and build an attachment capable of lifting and carrying 9 bales at once. The bales would be carried by a Manitou MLT 961-145 so the forks must be designed to suit this machine.

After consulting Kerfab’s library of drawings and specifications, the engineering team were able to design a user-friendly attachment that was both safe to use and capable of handling the heavy weights.

Designing an attachment like this is a tricky balance. The engineering team were able to design a strong attachment while keeping weight to a minimum. An attachment that’s over-engineered is usually too heavy, reducing the number of bales it can carry.

The added weight puts extra strain on the machine as well as changes the centre of gravity of the machine, this is especially true for telehandlers were the boom can be extended.

The finished design was sent to the production department where a team of Kerfab’s experienced fabricators got to work building this unique attachment. Kerfab’s well equipped factory ensured the fork was built efficiently and to the high quality expected of all Kerfab attachments.

After the paint had dried the operations team prepared the attachment for shipping and had it on it’s way to Queensland.

The finished product came in at about 760kg and had a total width of 7.3m. For ease of storage and transport, it can be folded to 3m wide. 10 Conus II tines hold the bales and the spacing allows for extra bales to be stacked on top of the first row of bales.
